Timber is possibly one of the first choices when it comes to flooring options. This has been the conventional choice and it continues to be one till today. As the name suggests, this type of flooring is derived from wood or timber from the trees. People tend to prefer this to other options because of a number of reasons. This is durable for starters and so it is something you can count on. It can take in a lot of mechanical pressure and yet stay strong and sturdy. Its restorability is another reason why people opt for timber flooring.

Types of timber flooring :

Solid wood flooring:

Hardwood is made from wooden plants that are derived from a single piece of timber. This is one of the traditional flooring options and it is still used in some parts of the world. Just like the previous one, this is also made from a single piece of timber. Here, the only difference is that the timber is air dried before sawing. This helps in the manufacturing purposes.

Engineered wood flooring:

This is the more common option in today’s times. It comprises of two or more layers of wooden pieces arranged in the form of a plank. Each layer in engineering wooden flooring is connected to the previous one at an angle of 90 degrees.

Parquetry flooring:

This is another unique floor designing pattern. In this case, there are different mosaic designs in the form of geometrical structures made on the floor.

Laminate flooring:

This kind of timber flooring is cheaper and more durable that the other varieties available. It doesn’t face problems like contraction and so it lasts for years.

Strip flooring:

This is slightly different. In this case, some wooden planks are placed on hardboards and it is nailed on to timber bases.

Tips for maintaining wooden floors:

Vacuuming is the most essential component in cleaning timber flooring. Doing this on a regular basis is very important to help keep your floor clean. Remember that the timber flooring has a certain finish and polish. Once this is disrupted by the dust and dirt particles the flooring will no longer look fresh and nice. So, make sure you vacuum the floor every day. Another important thing that we all know is that wood and water don’t go well together. So, try to keep the rain away from the floor. The rain might make it damp and less suitable for your house.

If the water penetrates inside, this might have adverse effects on the timber flooring. Keep the doors and windows closed if you are expecting a rainfall. Any sort of spill on the floor can leave a long lasting impression on it. So try to keep stains away from the floor. Use a good wooden floor cleaner in order to remove the residue in case of an accidental spill. Also, take immediate action when there is a spill. Using a doormat at the main entrance can keep the dust and dirt away from the timber flooring inside. This will go a long way in preventing unnecessary dirt from settling on the floor. Sometimes, when you walk the same path too many times in a day, it tends to weaken down and lose its finish. Try to use a throw rug that won’t spoil the look of the room but also keep the dirt away. If you are mopping the floor, make sure you do not use much water as it can have detrimental effects on the floor at home.
